Sep 1, 2017Barbara Dean MatthewsSCRANTON -- Barbara Dean Matthews, 73, widow of Roy Matthews, died Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at her residence after an illness.Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Friday, September 1, 2017, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, Scranton. Burial, will follow at Strickland-Feagin Cemetery, Lake City.The family will receive friends from 6:00 8:00 PM, Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Carolina Funeral Home, Scranton. Mrs. Matthews was born on October 28, 1943 in Greenwood County, daughter of the late Joseph Leroy Dean and Alpha Thomas Dean. She was a member of The Bible Temple in Coward and formerly taught the children's Sunday school class at Camp Branch Church of God of Prophecy. Mrs. Matthews retired from the Florence County Disabilities Board with over 20 years of service and prior to that was formerly employed with Lake City Scranton Nursing Center. Surviving are her daughters, Cynthia (Roger) Smiley of Sumter, Brenda (Bobby) Moore of Coward, Linda (James) Parrott and Debra Matthews, both of Scranton; son, Michael (Mickie) Matthews of Olanta; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sister, Shirley (Jimmy) Duncan of Greenwood; brothers, David (Joan) Dean of Waterloo, Roy (Annie) Dean of Tacoma, WA and James Dean of Fleetwood, NC; mother-in-law, Mary Matthews and sister-in-law, Ann Fulton of Scranton.
